The British Canoe Union (BCU) is the National Governing Body (NGB) for canoeing and kayaking in the UK.  It is the umbrella organisation of the four National Associations: Canoe Wales, the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland, the Scottish Canoeing Association and Canoe England.  The BCU Star Awards are personal performance awards that provide a progressive skills pathway for paddlers. They aim to support and encourage your paddling development and many are used as prerequisites for further qualifications. There are 5 levels of Star Awards.  Initially the awards are generic with the aim of encouraging a wider experience of the various paddlesport disciplines.  At 3 Star level you can choose to 'specialise' in one or more disciplines.
The Foundation Safety & Rescue Training Course (FSRT) aims to provide you with the skills needed to operate safely on sheltered waters and to deal with common emergencies.
